Garden Of Light 2009

The Garden Of Light was held at the University of Dundee Botanic Gardens on 28 February 2009

The event was a resounding success with a hugely positive response from visitors, young and old. 

For one night only, visitors were able to explore the garden trails as they'd never seen them before. Coinciding with the recent completion of the Garden Of Evolution exhibit, the areas illuminated included the larch and redwoods, North and South American areas in addition to the birch, evergreens, oaks and southern beech exhibits...and more. 

the concept for the event was simple: to illuminate some highlights of the garden to help illustrate the context within which the plant collection has been installed. 

The reality was a bit more complex: 

Musicians were commissioned to provide unique sound effects and music to link in with the Botanic zones, in some cases this was simple reproductions of wave sounds, in others a bit more experimental, such as at the Evolution area.

Over 200 floodlights were scattered throughout the grounds. Some purely ornamental, whilst others changed slowly through the colours as if moving the trees through spring summer autumn and winter.

Garden Of Light - Walk The World 27-28 February 2010

The event was so well received that we are to use the garden again for a new event in February 2010 - this time a much greater area of the garden will be open to visitors by extending the site eastwards to include the asian plant collections. Additional exhibits including interactive elements will give the event a whole new feel but retain the popular elements that made the 2009 event such a success. For more information, click here
